CAF Issues Ultimatum to Kwesi Appiah Over Conflict-of-Interest Concerns
Kwesi Appiah

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has voiced its fears about a possible conflict of interest that may arise from the former coach of the Black Stars, Mr. James Kwesi Appiah, holding dual positions.

In a letter written on October 6, 2024, administered by CAF, Mr. Appiah was asked to clear the air concerning the two opposing roles that he currently plays as a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council and head coach of the Sudan national football team.

CAF also underscored that having both the Ghana and Sudan teams play against each other on October 10 and 15 in two consecutive matches of the 2024 AFCON qualifiers is a very important occasion.

This particular situation is complicated further due to the fact that now Kwesi Appiah is in direct competition, representing both sides. The reasons being provided by the continental governing body of sport, Appiah, have a conflict of interest due to the abovementioned roles and activities that contravenes with the statutes of CAF and even the code of ethics set by FIFA.

With the AFCON qualifiers looming, Kwesi Appiah is in the limelight and the focus on what he will do in this challenging predicament.
