Chief Justice of Nigeria to Swear in 11 New Supreme Court Justices on Monday
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, is set to administer the oath of office to 11 newly-appointed Justices of the Supreme Court on Monday.
The list of justices to be sworn in includes: Jummai Sankey, Chidiebere Uwa, Chioma Nwosu-Iheme, Haruna Tsammani, Moore Adumein, Obande Ogbuinya, and Stephen Adah. Additionally, Habeeb Abiru, Jamilu Yammama Tukur, Abubakar Sadiq Umar, and Mohammed Baba Idris will also take their oaths.
Following their confirmation by the National Assembly on December 21, 2023, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s recommendation, the justices are now poised to assume their roles at the apex court.
According to Festus Akande, the Director of Information at the Supreme Court, the oath-taking ceremony will commence at 10:00 a.m. in the Main Courtroom of the Supreme Court, with Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwoola presiding over the proceedings.
Once sworn in, the newly-appointed justices will bring the Supreme Court to its full complement of 21 justices, as mandated by the Constitution.
