Uganda’s health ministry has issued a directive to health workers to either get vaccinated against COVID 19 or lose their jobs.
Those who will be absent from duty as failure to get vaccinated will have their contracts terminated. District Administrative Officers and hospital directors have been instructed to implement this directive.
The Director General health services Dr. Henry Mwebesa said that the government has distributed vaccine doses in all districts to speed up the process to meet the target of having over 22 million Ugandans vaccinated.
This comes at a time when President Yoweri Museveni recently announced that the lockdown will be fully lifted in January 2022 when numbers of people vaccinated has shot up.
However health workers have termed this directive as unfair and a double edged sword intended to dismiss them yet it is within their human rights to get vaccinated or not against COVID 19.
Uganda has so far registered 128,000 cases of the virus and 3,254 deaths.
