Ewereko Botwey: Have Politicians Failed the Good People of Nzema?
Social activist Ewereko Botwey raises concerns over unfulfilled promises made by Ghanaian politicians to the people of Nzema, reflecting on years of delayed development projects.
Ghanaian social activist Ewereko Botwey has raised concerns over the continuous unfulfilled promises made by politicians to the people of Nzema.
Reflecting on key events from the past decade, Botwey questions whether politicians are genuinely committed to the region's development or simply using it as a platform for political gains.
The frustration dates back to October 13th, 2015, when former President John Mahama inaugurated the Gwiraman Community Senior High School. During the event, Mahama assured the people of Gwira and Nzema that the road from Teleku Bokazo to Simpa Junction was under contract and that work would soon begin. However, despite these assurances, the road remains untouched.
The narrative repeated itself in August 2020 when President Akufo-Addo visited Teleku Bokazo to cut the sod for road construction in the Ellembelle District. Yet, as of now, no progress has been made on these roads, leaving the community in the same state of disrepair.
This cycle of broken promises isn't new. In 2008, the late former President Atta Mills promised to establish a rice processing factory at Esiama, but even the foundation stone for the project was never laid.
Given this history of unmet commitments, Botwey's concerns resonate deeply with the people of Nzema, who continue to wonder if their interests are truly being served by the political leaders they elect.
