Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, has voiced significant concerns regarding the effectiveness of the 'One Village, One Dam' initiative spearheaded by New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. His remarks come in the wake of severe drought conditions impacting the country.
Cudjoe underscored the critical need to reduce reliance on rainfall for agriculture by investing in robust irrigation systems and proper storage solutions to ensure food security amid adverse weather conditions. In a Facebook post, he acknowledged the efforts of the agriculture, finance, and defense ministers in managing the current drought crisis. However, he stressed the urgency for a more resilient and sustainable approach to farming.
He specifically highlighted the importance of the 'One Village, One Dam' initiative, which aims to enhance irrigation infrastructure in rural areas. Cudjoe questioned the current status of these projects, pointing out that substantial funds were invested in constructing these dams.
In his post, Cudjoe asked, "Anyway, Dr. Bawumia, I recall you aggressively led the campaign for 'One Village, One Dam' as the best strategy to augment existing irrigation systems. And billions of dollars were poured into these dams. May I know the status of these dams? When are we expecting them to kick in and help? Thank you."
Cudjoe's remarks reflect growing concerns about the effectiveness of government initiatives in addressing the ongoing agricultural and environmental challenges facing the country.
