GNPC Donates Modern Astro Turf to Takoradi's Esikafoe-Amantem
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has made another significant contribution to sports development in Ghana by commissioning a state-of-the-art Astro Turf for the Esikafoe-Amantem No.2 community in Takoradi, Western Region.

The facility was officially handed over on Saturday, June 15, 2024, as part of GNPC’s ongoing commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and fostering grassroots football across the country.
The newly constructed pitch, which includes a surrounding fence and four floodlights, is designed to be accessible and usable at all times, ensuring that the community can benefit from the facility both during the day and at night. This project underscores GNPC’s dedication to promoting physical well-being and nurturing football talents from a young age.
During the handover ceremony, Dr. Dominic Kwesi Eduah, the Executive Director of GNPC Foundation, highlighted the importance of community football in enhancing individual health and well-being. He noted that grassroots football serves as the foundation for discovering and developing football talent in the country. Dr. Eduah expressed confidence that the Western Region, known for producing some of Ghana’s football greats, would continue to contribute to the nation's sports legacy through this new facility.
Dr. Eduah also called on the community to take good care of the pitch, emphasizing the need to preserve the facility to ensure it serves future generations.
Receiving the facility on behalf of the community, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Member of Parliament for Takoradi Constituency and Western Regional Minister, expressed his gratitude to GNPC for the generous contribution. He assured that the Astro Turf would be used for its intended purpose and would be maintained to serve the community for years to come.
Hon. Darko-Mensah also encouraged the youth to make good use of the Astro Turf, urging them to engage in peaceful and harmonious activities that would ensure the facility’s longevity and continued enjoyment.
The commissioning of this Standard Astro Turf is another milestone in GNPC’s broader strategy to empower communities and impact lives positively through the development of sports infrastructure across Ghana.
