Goldfields Ghana Limited has launched Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) committee, made up of 79 host community members, was set up by the Tarkwa mine to ensure proper management of water and sanitation projects funded by the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation.
The committee develops long-term strategies and activities to sustainably manage these projects. They also sensitise community members on the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
As part of the initiative supports, the company has provided regular capacity-building training for the committee members to enable them execute their mandate.
Recently, the WATSAN committee, made up of 43% women, participated in a workshop on preserving underground water, proper waste management, as well as SDG 6, which promotes clean water and sanitation.
The training was organised by Tarkwa mine in collaboration with the Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Prestea Huni-Valley municipal assemblies.
