Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Harvard Academy Scholars Program 2025, applicants must:

• Hold or be close to completing a PhD or a comparable doctoral degree in the social sciences.
• If nearing dissertation completion, provide degree conferral documentation by June 30, 2025.
• Be prepared for an August 1, 2025, start date.
• Not have held or completed another Harvard postdoctoral fellowship.

Scholarship Coverage:

The program will select five or six Academy Scholars each year, who will receive:

• Annual Stipend: $80,000.
• Appointment Duration: Two years in residence at The Harvard Academy.
• Research Assistance: Substantial support to undertake significant research projects.

The fellowship must begin no later than the fall following the offer, with no delays or deferrals permitted. Scholars may apply for a one-time leave between Year 1 and Year 2 for tenure-track teaching appointments only. During the fellowship, scholars cannot accept other sources of funding or obligations.

Application Requirements:

Applicants must submit the following materials online by September 20, 2024:

1. Curriculum Vitae (CV): Including a list of publications.
2. Research Proposal: A maximum of 2,000 words detailing intellectual objectives and planned methodological work.
3. Scholarly Writing Sample: One sample, such as a PhD dissertation chapter or a single-authored peer-reviewed journal article, up to 50 pages in English.
4. PhD Program Transcript: A copy of your academic transcript.
5. Three Letters of Recommendation: Recommenders must submit letters confidentially online by the deadline.
