Senegal has formally excluded Bayern Munich attacker Sadio Mane from the World Cup because he was unable to heal from a leg injury he suffered earlier this month.
Sadio Mane will miss the World Cup, according to Senegal, as he needs surgery for the leg injury he suffered earlier this month while playing for Bayern Munich.
The ex-Liverpool player, who relocated to Munich in the summer, suffered a leg injury during Bayern Munich’s 6-1 victory against Werder Bremen on November 8. Despite this, he was still included on Senegal’s tournament roster in the hopes that he would be able to participate in Qatar.
Senegal will attempt to build on their success at the Africa Cup of Nations without Mane, who was crucial to their victory earlier this year, as he has now been formally ruled out.
The first-ever winter World Cup has seen a number of notable players withdraw from the competition, including Mane. A number of other celebrities, including Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante, and Mane’s former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota, have also been forced to withdraw from the championship game due to injury.
Following rumors that the 30-year-old would not be ready for the World Cup, Bayern had issued a statement after Mane had suffered the injury.
