Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, fmr U/West Regional Minister

Some Concern Youth of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Lawra constituency of the Upper West Region have kicked against any attempt by President Nana Addo Dakkwa Akufo-Addo to reappoint Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih as Upper West Regional Minister for the second time.

According to the Youth Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih has contributed to the loss of the NPP in the Upper West Region and has been accused of trading off some of the NPP seats to the NDC for money to satisfy his parochial desires.

“The Minister love for money made him to trade off with some of the seats in the region to the NDC. He openly campaigned against some of the parliamentary candidates e.g Wa central, Sissala West, Jirapa, Nadowli constituencies etc which led to the losses incurred in these constituencies”.

Addressing a press conference in Lawra on Saturday January 16, 2021, Chairman of the Concern Youth of NPP in the Lawra constituency, Dery Johnson K indicated that, the divisive nature of the Minister contributed to the deepening of cracks in the NPP especially, the Lawra constituency which finally led to the kicking out of parliament, the NPP Member of Parliament Hon. Antony Abe-Ifa Karbo in the just ended 2020 polls.

“He is a very vindictive, segregative, divisive leader and very much diabolic in his actions. His behavior and attitude led to the divisions which existed between the constituency Chairman (Alhaj Mohammed Dankor) and the PC (Hon. Anthony Karbo) in Lawra constituency which finally landed our MP in to the landslide defeat on the 7th December 2020 elections.”

The group believes that Hon. Hafiz Bin Salih has nothing good for the NPP Party and the region at large, hence their call for the patriots in the region to rise up and say no to the Minister. They further accented that the President has intention of retaining Hafiz Bin Salih as Regional Minister hence their plea to the president not to make what they call a mistake by bring Hafiz Bin Salih again.

“This man (Hafiz Bin Salih) has nothing good for the party nor the region and we call on all patriots to rise up. UWR is an NPP stronghold. It is just because of these characters that are our hindrances. As a Regional Minister , he could not even win his own polling station. Who should win for him to become Regional Minister? We are sure President of your intent to reconsider Hon Hafiz Bin Salih back as Regional Minister for Upper West. We believe Mr. President is not aware of his monster deeds thus your move. We can assure you that bringing him back will be the worse decision that you will take. Because he cannot unit the party to talk of helping you achieve anything meaningful in the Upper West Region” Mr Johson stated.

Good afternoon to all and sundry, we wish to thank everyone especially all media men and women present for honouring our invitation. Indeed when you see a partidge fly in the day time, then is obvious something is after its dear life. Therefore our invitation extended to you is very urgent and must be given urgent attention.

We the Concern Youth of Lawra wish to extend our felicitations to the President, Vice President and the NPP for yet another victory in the just ended polls. As our mantra goes,”the battle is still the Lord’s” We believe that this victory came as result of Ghanians trust for your hard work, determination to serve Ghanaians the best way possible and your prudent management of the economy.

Therefore, to whom much is given, much is expected. We are sure Mr. President is aware that most of your appointees which you so much trusted and appointed betrayed you of the trust and engaged in acts which were detrimental to the progress of the party thus our abysmal performance in the just ended polls.

Appointees such as the Upper West regional Minister (Dr. Hafiz in Salih) arrogance, abuse of power, dictatorship, nepotism and segregativeness in serving the people of Upper West Region is what made us to lose many of the seats in Upper West.

The former Regional Minister is guilty when viewed in connection with how he related with fellow patriots including the Regional Chairman and the other Chairmen in the other constituencies in the region especially the Chairman of the Lawra constituency; but he is superlatively guilty when viewed in connection with his activities and behavour towards some other parliamentary candidates in the region during the just ended elections, hence the poor results acquired by him for the party in the Region in the just ended elections.

This man who went into an election for the position of a Regional Chairman, but lost to the current Regional Chairman and since then has indicated his never ceasing hatred for the current Regional Chairman including the other constituency chairmen whom he deems the close associates of the regional chairman probably because he feels they voted for the current Regional Chairman to become the Regional Chairman of the Upper West Region. An unbecoming situation which didn’t contribute in the electoral fortunes of the party in the region and the development of the region at large.

This man whose incessant quest for wealth and matrial gains led him to lose his sense of right. He had to extend his attitude of antagonism and vindictiveness to the Lawra constituency, colluded and conspired with our (fmr) MP, Anthony Abe-Ifah Karbo to punish, abuse, disrespect and relegate the chairman of our constituency Alhaj Mohammed Donkor to the background in the administration of the party in our constituency.

He in collaboration with our MP (fmr) usurped the powers of the chairman of our constituency and rendered him weak and helpless during this elections, as he disturbed and routed all campaign finances, logistics and resources directly to the MP without the knowledge or consent of the chairman.

A situation which further caused disunity amongst the other constituency Executives and our failure to retain the Lawra constituency seat.

They are many down to earth, knowledgeable and multi-players that can help increase the political fortunes if given the opportunity Mr. President. We would therefore advise you to do due consultations with party leadership to get the right person appointed in the larger interest of the party and good governance.

Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih reappointment would further kill the party in Upper West. We shall resist his reappointment bid today and tomorrow in the interest of the party.

It is obvious that Dr. Hafiz, the former Regional Minister has defaulted in his promise to contribute to the development of the people of the Upper West Region and the New Patriotic Party in the Upper West Region so far as the unity and development of the people are concerned. Instead of honouring the administrative obligation and responsibility to foster unity and patriotism amongst the people and the fellow patriots in the region, he rather succeeded in his acts of segregation, greed and antagonism to further cause disunity and disinterest in the people and the fellow patriots. Mr. President you are therefore sadly mistaken if you feel that the reappointment of Dr. Hafiz will bring unity, development, and success to the Upper West Region and the New Patriotic in the Upper West Region.

We believe in the infinite wisdom of you Mr. President. We are therefore appealing to you that don’t make any mistake in this your second round by appointing people who does not resonate with the grassroots but burnt in amassing wealth to the detriment of we the ordinary Ghanaians.

If we have said anything in this release that overstates the truth and indicates any sense of hatred, we beg the people of Upper West Region to forgive us. If we have said anything that understates the truth and indicates our having a conscience that allows us settle for anything less than patriotism, we beg the fellow patriots and the almighty God to forgive us.

We hope this release finds Mr. President strong in faith.

God bless the good people of Lawra Constituency, the Upper West Region and God bless our motherland Ghana and make her strong.
