MP Raises Illegal Sand Winning Issues in Parliament: Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie Seeks Action from Minister Samuel A. Jinapor

During a session in Parliament on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament for Ketu South, raised concerns about the ongoing issue of illegal sand winning within her constituency.

She directed her query to Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources and also the MP for Damongo constituency.

In response to Hon. Gomashie's inquiry, Hon. Jinapor assured the Parliament that his ministry was actively collaborating with law enforcement agencies to address the problem of illegal sand winning. He emphasized that measures were being taken to ensure the safe reclamation of lands affected by these activities.

Furthermore, Hon. Jinapor disclosed that some operators previously engaged in illegal sand winning had registered with the Minerals Commission to transition to a legal and regulated form of sand winning.

Seeking additional reassurance, Hon. Gomashie inquired whether the Minister would personally oversee the implementation of the measures discussed. In response, Hon. Jinapor affirmed his commitment, stating that he would indeed be present in the constituency to ensure the execution of the ministry's initiatives.

The exchange in Parliament highlights the ongoing efforts by government authorities to combat illegal sand winning practices and safeguard environmental sustainability in affected areas.
