The old students union of Nsein Senior High School (NOSA) have pleaded with the Nsein Traditional Council to embrace their call to rename the school after Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Speaking at the school’s 60th anniversary celebration, the Leader of 1971 year group, Former Chief Executive Officer for Ghana Gas and Former Health Minister, Dr. George Sipa-Adjah Yankey, said apart from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, there is no pre tertiary education institution named after Ghana’s founder, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
He said renaming the school after Dr. Nkrumah will be a welcoming news for both old students and residents.
The old boys and girls are agitating that Nkrumah is our father who is much known in Ghana, Africa and the world. And there is no Secondary school in the country which is named after Dr Kwame Nkrumah. And so the old boys, the students and even the staff as well are pleading to Awulae to consider the renaming of this school Kwame Nkrumah sSecondary School, he said.
He didn’t leave the traditional authority’s support out.
In appreciation of the support and all what they have done for us, we want to have a comma in between; it will be Kwame Nkrumah Secondary School, Nsein, so at least we have the same goal by killing two birds with one stone, satisfying the chiefs and people of Nsein, and then our father Kwame Nkrumah who has fought so well for this country and whose name has not been given to any of our schools apart from KNUST, he added.
He later referred their plea to the governing board of the school, with the caution that Nsein should be maintained in the proposed name so it will be Kwame Nkrumah Senior High School, Nsein.
So I have agreed to your plea, and we need to honour our first president of the Republic. I have seen your Chairman of the governing Board of the school here, so I have asked him to use Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s name for the school. But don’t ever try to ignore the Nsein from the new name. If you try to do so, second part of our problem will start, he said.
