The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has defended ongoing plans to purchase new vehicles for all current members of Parliament.

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta has tabled a $28 million loan agreement before parliament that is expected to be used to secure at least 275 vehicles for our already heavily paid Parliamentarians.

There were high calls from different corners of the country for the MPs to show they really cared about the ordinary citizens and reject the move but that will not in anyway happen in the mind of the South Dayi MP.

Speaking about the developments, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor revealed the move to get them a car is verynecessary because some of the MPs come to parliament in hiring cars popularly known as Uber.

He went on to argue that they even deserve better than the $28 million loan the finance minister is talking about and just that they are they will have to accept it because there is no other option.

“It is not about rejecting it, as we speak we have been in office for seven months and our colleagues who are new and did not have the benefit of having strong vehicles come to this House with uber and is very dangerous.

“The arrangement may be wrong and for me it is wrong but I cannot say because it is wrong if there are no other alternatives I won’t accept it,” he stated

He said this words during an engagement with JoyNews on Wednesday where he also brand the backlashes the move is receiving in the media as Unfair since the payment of the car will be deducted from the salaries of every MP.

“It is offensive, it is attracting very offensive comments unto MPs, and it is unfair. What is troublesome is that those vehicles are not owned by MPs during the pendency of the loan. You only get the vehicle transferred into your name after you’ve finished paying the loan,” he explained.
