Nyakim was born in Ethiopia, to her biological parents of South Sudanese descent. Because of frequent conflicts, Nyakim’s childhood memories are of migrations. Nyakim moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota (USA) as a teenager and continued to attend high school and college.
