Heavy Police Presence in Asesewa After Clash Between NPP and NDC Supporters
A heavy police presence has been established in Asesewa following a violent clash between supporters of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate Joseph Tetteh and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) Bismark Tetteh Nyarko.
The altercation erupted when NDC supporters discovered District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment branded with NPP logos parked at the hotel of the NPP candidate. While attempting to photograph the equipment, the NDC supporters were confronted by NPP supporters, leading to a physical brawl that resulted in several injuries, including that of the NPP constituency chairman.
Initially, local police responded to the scene but quickly called for reinforcements from the regional command. The counter-terrorism unit was deployed to restore order and manage the escalating situation.
Following the clash, NPP supporters paraded the DRIP equipment through the main streets of Asesewa before delivering it to the district assembly. In response to the violence, the NPP’s communication bureau in the constituency condemned the alleged attack on their chairman and has called for an immediate investigation into the incident.
Salifu Mohammed, also known as Foreigner, a youth leader of the NPP who is currently sought by the police for his alleged involvement in the clash, has denied the accusations in an interview with Citi News.
Meanwhile, MP Bismark Tetteh Nyarko addressed a gathering at Asesewa Zongo during a tour with the party’s general secretary. He refuted claims that the NPP candidate personally purchased the DRIP equipment, asserting that the allegations are unfounded.
The situation in Asesewa remains tense as authorities continue to investigate the clash and work towards restoring peace in the community.
